2009 Big Ten Indoor
Champions!!!

February 28 and March 1 - Men's Big Ten
Indoor Championship - Penn State University

Man - what can I say? It was a FABULOUS weekend.  The guys were superb - as athletes and as representatives of the University.  They performed great in the events, as a team and they were really simply very nice guys - helpful, thankful, grateful and all that good stuff.  All of the pictures are now up.  If you don't see one you thought I took, send me an e-mail.  But, I have to confess that some just didn't turn out.  I get better every year, but I still mess up regularly.  Sorry.

The posts may seem heavy on the multi-events but realize three things.  First, they are the first events of each day.  Second, because these events are sometimes the only thing going on, photographers are given the chance of getting much, much closer to the action.  So, the pictures are just better.  And I can't resist posting them.  And, DUH!!!, it just hit me - they are in a lot of events....  So, no wonder I get lots of pictures of them.

Please realize that at these big meets, they don't let me wander all over the field.  They had 5 spots designated as photo zones.  They were not always in the best places.  It was particularly frustrating to get good pictures of the 60 meter dash or the hurdle prelims.  Those events are hard to shoot anyway because they go so FAST.  Shooting that fast action from far away is even tougher.

Parents - if you got some great shots please send me them.  I am in particular need of shots of pole vault.

February 20 and 21 - Snowshoe Classic
 and Parent's Weekend

Sorry - I missed the meets on February 20 and 21.  The good news for the guys is that Peiter Gagnon's dad, James, was there and he took a ton of pictures.  You can find them at http://www.flickr.com/photos/mnirisguy .

I have received one e-mail message from someone who attended the Saturday meet and will post those 2 pictures shortly, but if anyone out there has more to send, please do.  Send to gophertrackshots@hotmail.com.   Also, I will post the note now - any pictures from the women's Big 10 indoor championship will be greatly appreciated.  I will be attending the men's championship, so that coverage will be posted after March 1.
February 14, 2009 - Coca Cola Classic
U of W - River Falls

Wow - athletes were scattered all over the country.  It must have been a case of divide and conquer as there were many, many great performances.  I wish I could have been there for all of them, but I went to River Falls.  A free 8X10 print to the first person who e-mails me with the right answer to why I would have gone to River Falls, rather than one of the other meets.  The answers of cost or distance don't count.  You need to do better than that.

We had a lot of fun at River Falls.  There were many, many parents there because it is so close to the city.  For the photographer it is a very frustrating place, though.  It is so compact that there seem to always be people in the way of getting a good picture.  But, it is probably great for the fans as they are really, really close to the action.

If you went to Iowa or Washington and got some pictures, please forward them to me for posting.
